The Tulip Project
It’s Spring time a period of reflection with Easter just a few weeks away! We have much to be thankful and joyous for at this time of year. Out Reach is renewing our commitment to UPMC/ Hamot by continuing the Tulip Project for 2019. This project was initiated with some seed money from the Presbytery last year. With the additional donations from our congregation, we were able to provide help for over 120 women, children and some men. We helped the wonderful nurses who attend those entering the emergency room as domestic and rape victims of our community with genuine care and concern.
After victims are examined and consoled, they are often in a state of shock with nowhere to turn. By offering these patients a small gift bag with a few toiletries, new under garments, a sweet and inspirational message, they are being shown love and mercy at a time when they feel abandoned,
We are once again needing items to restock the ER supply of underwear, sport’s bras, tiny stuffed animals, and knitters willing to make pocket prayer squares. We will have small “wish lists” on the information table for your wallet, as a reminder of small items needed for this project. Directions for the pocket square will also be there as well. Whatever you can supply will be a blessing to this project: tooth paste and tooth brush, lotion, gum or hard candies, chapstick, combs, brushes, flip flops, disposable razors, shaving cream, sports bras, & underwear.
We still have extra gift bags in storage and hope we can do get an assembly line of volunteers to help fill them in May, and attach an inspirational message to the pocket prayers in preparation for delivery to Hamot.
In Christian Love and thanks in advance for your generosity,
Amy Valentine
